IEC 81346 explained

IEC 81346-1 addresses basic rules for structuring industrial systems and using reference designations. Distinct views help identify an object within its context.

Educational context, not a claim of product conformity or certification. Detailed requirements need verification against the official standard.

Views and structures

Function describes what an object does, product describes its composition, and location describes where it is placed. These relationships should not be collapsed into an unqualified display name.

Designations and identity

A reference designation helps locate an object in a structure. A permanent internal identifier serves another purpose: keeping history connected when an asset moves or its structural context changes.

Pending verification

Thingspire EAM’s detailed IEC 81346 class codes remain pending verification against the official text. Internal aliases are not represented as official class codes. No product conformity or certification is claimed.
